Grand Hotel aan Zee receives production funding support from the NPO-fund

The NPO Fund has granted production funding for Big Blue’s newest high-end series Grand Hotel aan Zee, an eight-part romantic costume drama set between 1912 and 1919.

The series follows Sandra, the ambitious owner of the luxurious Grand Hotel aan Zee in Noordwijk as she strives to transform the hotel into the ultimate destination for the European elite within just two years. Sandra’s journey is set against the backdrop of the rise of women’s suffrage, a time when societal roles were being redefined and new opportunities for women began to emerge. As she pushes the boundaries of what is possible for a woman in her time, the hotel’s transformation not only influences Sandra’s future but also the lives and loves of five women around her.

In coproduction with broadcaster KRO-NCRV, shooting is set to begin this spring. The series is written by head writer Astrid van Keulen and writers Eva Aben and Anjali Tenaji. It will be directed by Aniëlle Webster and Fleur Winters is serving as the creator/showrunner.
