Ik val niet, ik dans (Don’t fall, dance) is live!

Starting 10 april, Ik val niet, ik dans is available to stream for free on NPO Start!

This moving new four-part mini-series is the latest original from Big Blue, created in collaboration with KRO-NCRV. Based on the book by Margot van Schayk — and inspired by her own remarkable life — the story follows Emma Maas (played by Hanna van Vliet), a woman who faces cancer four times, yet never lets it define her.

At its heart, the series is a celebration of “levenslust” — a deep, contagious zest for life, in other words, an ode to life. Producer Fleur Winter, who was also a close friend of Margot’s, brings this energy to the screen with honesty, humour, and love. Fleur Winters: “I wanted to turn her life story — which Margot had already shared in her own book — into a series.”

The series is the result of a trusted creative partnership: KRO-NCRV and Big Blue previously joined forces on the Golden Calf-winning miniseries Rampvlucht, about the Bijlmer plane crash.
Ik val niet, ik dans was written by Eva Aben (Luizenmoeder, Ten Minste Houdbaar Tot) and directed by Simone van Dusseldorp (Dit Zijn Wij, Klem, De Droom van de Jeugd).

Fleur Winters and Hanna van Vliet were guests at talkshow Bar Laat to present the new series. It was a heartfelt conversation filled with words like zest for life (levenlust), vulnerability and love. These sentiments struck a chord with many viewers, sparking heartfelt messages and emotional reactions from those who saw themselves, their friends, or their memories reflected in the story. The response has been overwhelming in the best way — a reminder of how powerful storytelling can be when it’s rooted in truth and vulnerability.
