Series The Crash is a international success, already sold to seven countries.
The Crash, the Golden Calf-winning KRO-NCRV drama series produced by production house Big Blue has been sold to seven countries by international distributor Studiocanal.
Among others, the series will be shown on Canal+ in France, Disney+ in Belgium and commercial channels in Australia, Germany, Spain, Portugal and the series has already aired to rave reviews in Israel.
The Crash is a reality-based conspiracy thriller, about the most controversial plane crash in the Netherlands in the last century; The Bijlmer Disaster. In the series, journalists Vincent Dekker and Pierre Heijboer, together with veterinarian Asha Willems, search for the truth about the disaster. The series is written by Michael Leendertse and directed by Lourens Blok and Edson da Conceicao. The lead roles are played by Thomas Höppener (Vincent Dekker), Yorick van Wageningen (Pierre Heijboer) and Joy Delima (Asha Willems).
“We are incredibly proud that this series that has made such an impact locally is finally able to find such an international audience, something that is very unique in this day and age where so many series are released.” Says producer Fleur Winters following the news.
“It’s very special that a socially relevant series like The Crash will now be seen in so many other countries. Great and rightful appreciation to all the writers, cast and crew.” Says Laurens Woldberg, creative director at KRO-NCRV.
During the Netherlands Film Festival 2022, the series was awarded a Golden Calf for Best Drama Series. At the same time, the series was shown on NPO 1 and Rampvlucht was received by an average of 1.7 million viewers (NPO 1 and NPO Start) per episode. The series can still be watched on NPO Plus.
Last week, partly in response to the series, the motion was passed in the House of Representatives to disclose the secret archive documents about the Bijlmer disaster.
The drama series Rampvlucht was part of KRO-NCRV’s multimedia concept and also consisted of a documentary, a podcast and a digital 3D reconstruction. The different parts of Rampvlucht give a unique insight into the Bijlmer disaster 30 years after the fact, highlighting the disaster from different angles.
